Maybe you should do a bit of math first and determine if you can build to a reasonable weight. I have no idea what material thickness will result in a reasonable weight, but it may be too thin to weld but maybe thick enough to glue.

Rolled edges might be good.

Remember that aluminum sinks so you need some positive floatation.

And cold - you will be cold sitting on the bottom of the aluminum boat. I suggest some foam padding below the water line in the cockpit.
