:I'm planning to build a second greenland paddle soon.The one I just finished is
just under 86 inches,18 inch loom,and 3 1/4 inches wide at the blade tip.Solid cedar with ash tips and ash bumper strips going part way up the blade as in west greenland style.I'd like to make my next one 82 inches long,laminated with spruce shaft,cedar blades but with the ash tip flared and ash edges the full length of the blade as in east greenland style.The reason is because I want something that looks a little different and a little more surface area at the end for more bite,and to make up for the fact that each blade will be 1 1/2 inches shorter.I realize the downside will be a tad more swing weight and a little more wind resistance but I think I'll give it a try.Has any body built one with the flared tip and if so how did it work? Just curious.
