Lot's of good advise in this thread. I'd like to add that the species of wood your working can make a difference. Red cedar and redwood resist rot because they possess high levels of toxins. Continued exposure to the dust of these species can result in chronic lung diease (sequoiosis). Generally, other temperate species are not as dangerous. Some tropical species (mahoganies, etc.) can be even more toxic. With this in mind I picked up one of those 2HP dust collectors at a truckload tool sale for $100. Now to set it all up!
