Hi Brad;
The ragged cloth with all of its ugly strands will feather out and become absolutely invisible - Don't worry about it. After the epoxy cures a light feathering with your ROS will set you up for a fill coat. When you feather the fill coat(s) you will not be able to see a thing - Even with a mirror finish.
The picture below shows what my previously *perfect* deck looked like after glassing the coaming form . . . You can visit my site linked below and see how it turned out. In general you can patch, overlap, reinforce, etc. without concern, as glass & epoxy are wonderful to work with.
