I plan to try flying my quad line kite on short lines from my yak this spring/ summer. You have incredibly precise control with a quad line kite, and should be able to tack fairly well with it. A single line parafoil kite is going to need more wind than we generally have here in CT, and a bear to launch from a short line too unless you get one that is much larger than most people are going to want to spend on an experiment.
