Somehow this thread has gotten quite far from yak building. Nevertheless, based on one summer job I offer the following recipe for those who may want to make their own tack cloths and reduce our dependency on Chinese imports:
1800 lbs. confectionary sugar.
200 lbs. natural or artifical gum base.
8 lbs. peppermint oil.
Mix at 220 deg. for 15 minutes, roll to 4" thick, cut into 18" x 18" loaves, cure at 65 deg. for 8 hours, roll to 1/16" and cut to stick size. Makes one ton.
