I'd go with the simple steamer mentioned in the thread. If the love of your life has a pressure cooker and will loan it out, you can use it as your boiler. Just remove the guage and replace it with a short length of pipe. Run a auto radiator hose to the PVC and you're cooking. Well, you will be when you put your hot plate/camp stove under the cooker. Just don't seal up that PVC tight. This isn't about bomb making! The rag is a good way to go. Keep the pipe at a slight angle to let condensation run out. You don't want to get the wood wet. You may want to drill through the pipe every foot and insert a support for the workpiece. This will keep it out of the condensation. Use copper wire for your supports. Steel will stain the wood.

Start with about five minutes steaming and check for flexibility. At the extreme wood falls apart into mush like so much over done pasta.

Otherwise, I've read, but never tried, using a heat gun to bend wood. You're supposed to heat it to just below scorching. I'd still go with the steam.
