Has anybody used hide glue? :
Hide glue is not too expensive but requires a glue pot (crock pot works), has to be heated in advance and kept at fairly stable temperature. It is fine for furniture work, but a little inconvenient. It is used on the finest furniture and restoration not becuase of its superior bonding characteristics, but because it is reversible. Heat, vinegar, or other or other techniques can be used to disassemble any joint.
If Chippendale, Hepplewhite, or Sheraton built kayaks, I'll bet they'd use Titebond or similar.
