My Wood Mizer is a bandsaw mill primarily designed to make lumber from logs. The bandsaw has a 28" capacity and uses a 1 1/4" wide blade. The bandsaw is mounted on a carrage that travels down rails as the blade moves through the wood. The thing is powered by a 13hp gas engine. This is the baby Wood Mizer. It'll tear through a 12' pine log in less than a minute. Each kerf or cut wastes 1/16" of lumber. So to produce 1/8" rough stock you need to allow 3/16". With a sharp blade it produces a fair finish that requires minimal planing, figure another 1/16". At this point you've used 1/4" to get your 1/8". This is pretty typical of a resaw, before you know it you're in the kitty litter business.
