brrr....

Pauls respons is pretty pasimistic.....

I would never build my sg if I only read what he said.

I don't mean to say he is wrong. just take it with the right proportions.

so lets see, I'm on this board 2 years or so & I would take the calculated risk
& say there are quite a few builders here who built their boats from JUNK wood!

I would say they made their boats out of waste plywood they collected here & there, perhaps they even had to join few pieces together to get full length,
I mean few pieces of somebody elses scrapped plywood, & probably pieces
of different types of plywood.

plywood can be joined with scarfs, or the pygmy way - that is to glue a strip
of fg on both sides of the joint. to my opinion it's a great way of bypassing
the voids problem.

I would also say these anonymus builder's boats work wonderful but they
(the builders) are too embarrassed to tell the truth since all of us build such beautiful boats with such "perfect" types of plywoods.

If I new then what I know now I would do it your way without hesitation,
but, well..... I didn't 8-P .

I am looking for different types of woods in dumpsters
located near a carpenter's shops all the time.
I used "dumpsters wood" for different parts of my boat including all the
take-a-part project.

my boat is a Coho, & I bought it a s a kit.

many buiders here would recommend a kit as a first boat, I would recommend
the same, but it's only a recommendation !

it is also much better to learn boatbuilding the hard way,
than not learning it at all.

go for it & don't be surprised when you suddenly get a wonderful boat.

I don't think water will penetrate the epoxy & glass, & get into the wood,
unless you bang into something.

I think the most important test is heating your plywood with iron, & if it works - then it works !

another useful recommendation is to first build your wife's boat (if you have),
because the first boat is going to be hers anyway 8-P

build less, paddle more,

Erez
