I used the same design as Chris for my finer boards - above 80 grit. For the coarse grits - down to 50 grit - I cut sanding belts and wrapped them around a piece of 1/2" plywood. I ran screws through scrapwood handles on top and through the ends of the belt.
I especially liked the belts because of the extra-heavy backing and the fact that they didn't load up with dust.
