I think you'll find it much better to apply after glassing the hull. You can resin the keel strip, and screw it on and then when it gets damaged, scraped up or whatever, it can be removed and repaired or replaced. You can cut plugs out of the same wood and cover the screws and then finish that spot over. Then you just dig the plug out later when neccessary. The screws won't look bad exposed though.
