: Ok, now I've got the book and a set of plans to build a Guillemot. I have
: been looking around but have not had much luck locating any cedar other
: than fence picketts locally. Anybody know of a good source either local or
: willing to ship. I plan on milling my own strips to save a few $.
: I got to spend a few days touring in a plastic boat on Canyon Lake, AZ. I
: liked not having to carry the camping gear in my backpack. Next step --
: lumber aquisition and form cutting.

If you have your heart set on cedar, good luck to you. There are several companies willing to ship it already cut, for a price. I found no one in the Phoenix area willing to order the wood, unless I wanted enough foar at least a half a dozen kayaks. Deciding that I really wanted redwood and pine after all I found the best quality at Heldt Lumber which I believe is on 7th St. in Phx., an older quality lumber yard. They had no problem with me checking the grain on each board ("at these prices, take all the time you want").
