I put a few Fur Trade canoe drawings and photos up on our web site. The link is below. The drawings are from Adney "Bark Canoes and Skin Boats of North America". The photo below is the canoe with the not so big and high ends that I mentioned. This may be a good compromise to cut down the wind effect. This canoe and 3 others are described in "Birchbark Canoes of the Fur Trade, Volume II" by Timothy Kent. It is not an easy book to find since it was published by the author. Amazon.com doesn't list it. Barnes and Noble said they had it, but cancelled my order without notice after making me wait for 4 months. I finally bought it at the Minnesota Historical Society bookstore. Hiope this helps.
