Here is an example of one of our "Glass-Ply" decks to show what I mean. The deck face veneer is called "Emberwood". I have no idea of the Genus/species name of it or what else it might be called in the lumber trade. It has really rich colors that change from light to dark with changing light angles. Almost like it is glowing embers. The lighter colored "blaze" in the center is the sapwood. This is on a 15' 9" Cormorant and was made with veneer that was 7 feet long and about 7" wide. The cockpit recess is veneered with quilted maple. The hull of this yak is the dark "tiger stripe" Meranti. A more close-up view of the wood is at the link below, near the bottom of the page (our deck fitting page). I took some photos of the process, but I haven't sent them in yet (before the new digital camera, spoiled!). I'll dig up the rolls of film and send them in and put up the process on our web site....just in case someone feels adventureous.
