do you mean the upside down won't or the right side up.

I presume you mean upside down. So turn the loops 90 sidways to eliminat the problem. Like a length from one near 1/4pt of the front rack to the near 1/4 pt of the rear rack. And a lockable one from the 3/4pt of the front rack to the 3/4pt on the back. I think it really depends on the yak and the plane of the coaming upturn or slot being in plane w/ the loops - the more out of plane the worst.

But if you think of the loop more in terms of a lockable like cable tie or real chain - like you can lock right at the right link maybe the other will work too??

But the simlest approach is to just use one rack tube and design a steering lock simile in reverse using the loop idea. Say you curved a 18 - 24in long pc of 1/2 od stainless stl tubing or alum rod into roughly the shape of the back of the coaming. and a 12in pc for the front, rigidly connect 1/2in chain or cable to one side and a free chain lenth to the other's back . Pull free chain end thru a loop on the front tube and lock. Either the back tube is blind bolted to a rack tube or the front.

or make a simple one out of 5/8 plyor alum plate, cut a back coaming shape, bolt to rack, slide yak into it, hole on ea side to pull chain thru. lock at hole for no play.
