Just finished reading the posts "Tape, wax, shellac ?"

I am going stapleless on my Guillemot. Been thinking about the problem of keeping the strips in position while the glue sets. Gluing the strips to the forms is a gamble in-between having the joint let go too soon and making the form a permanent part of the kayak.

Has anybody tried an approach like this?

The idea: Use an "interface layer" in between the form and the strip to provide good gluing surface. This "glue-strip" can be easily detached from the form and later removed from the hull.

The plan: Drill holes every 3"[?] around the perimeter of the form and "stitch" [a-la Stitch&Glue construction] two "glue-strips" to the form with thin wire. The strips would start and end at the shears, one for the deck and one for the hull. When tightened, the thin wire should be able to dig in to the glue-strip enough to be out of the way. The glue-strips could be thin wood or cardboard.

The procedure: Strip the hull as normal and attach the strips to the glue-strip with hot-melt glue as required. Cut the wires holding the glue-strips to the forms to remove the hull/deck. Use a heatgun to remove the glue-strips from the inside of the hull/deck.
