Hi Hank
You were looking for a intermediate material and that got me to thinking about that strapping. I have some yellow stuff about 1/2" wide and sorta like a real tough plastic material. It is bonded at the ends with heat. Got it off some cardboard box that was shipped to me. I am a scrounger and could not throw this stuff away of course, really strong but cuts easy.
You would still have to use your wire method to hold it to the shape of the concave areas on the forms. This stuff might be of some use to clamp the strips also temporarily.
