: Rob, Nick, Russ, I certainly enjoyed the three of you and your dicussions of
: planes, scrapers and sanding. It show that masters can disagree and all
: have their favorite techniques that work best for them. I am newbe
: building my fist stripper but I am not new around wood, plastics and
: plaster or many boat project. I was in the pattern and model trade for 45
: years and I have work with such diverse crasftmen as a wood carver from
: Germany that was an expert with chisels to the most modern Cad-Cam
: patternmakers. One thing I found is that when you get away from the basic
: power tools and get down to indivual techniques everyone is different. And
: most of us were trying to reinvent the wheel because that was the way we
: advance our skills and found new ways of doing things with greater speed
: and accurcy. My haul isn't faired completely yet, but I have use a jack
: plane, finger plane, beltsander, scraping, ROS and I am getting ready to
: use my 2'long fairing board. So far I like the beltsander and the finger
: plane best for my fairing. But that's just me. I get a lot of ideas from
: this board and I try many. When I finish my kayak I will buy your book
: Nick and see what I should have done that I didn't do. But right now it is
: more fun to stumble around and discover what works and doesn't for myself
: and rely on this board for all kinds of information.

Hello John,
Had a sleepless night? Saw your post came in at 4:00 am.
I'm beginning to realize how real this "guy nature" is. We all want to reinvent the wheel, do it "MY WAY" as Frank said. I guess after about forty years of reinventing the wheel I tend to follow directions better than I used to.
I guess it's only natural for us to do things differently.
