As mentioned, I sized the cabinets to those plastic boxes with the interlocking tops. The top section was sized to fit under the door track then split in half. It now contains the Xmas stuff.

It takes about $100 to build one and about 3 good nights work not counting finish. I was planning on finishing out the east wall this month but I received the bill for the last propane fillup so will hold off a bit.
