On power: 100 amp dedicated service. 220 and 110 outlets at 4' or 6' centers on every wall. Dedicated 220 circuits on the big tools; table saw, band saw, radial saw in my case.
On heat: If you havent yet poured the floor, look into hot water radiant tubing buried in the concrete. It is by far the most comfortable heat you will ever have. Use a standard water heater and a small pump to circulate it. If you have poured the floor, take a look at www.reverberray.com overhead infrared heat. I have an HL 20 75/50, and it is really nice for warming the boats up before coating. You have to be careful not to coat too soon, as sunlight causes outgassing these heaters are like the sun only closer... In fact, if Nick will let me get away with a pitch, we have several of these heaters in stock. Send me an email if you are interested. As a manufacturers rep, I can probably get you a better deal than most. I use it in concert with a wood stove, and couldnt be happier.
On storage; I made a rack out of old pallets, 16' long and 4' wide, three "shelves" tall. It is amazing how much material it will hold. Boats fit good too! And pick up a small refrigerator for epocy storage. With a light bulb inside it keeps the resin nice and warm.
And dust collection is a good thing. Run it overhead, use a cyclone for a prefilter. WWW.Onieda.com has a lot of good products and information. I guess the Jet 1200 is the best fan deal going but that's not what I have. A seperate finishing room is great! Pick up a free furnace fan from your local sheet metal shop (used) and make yourself some ceiling filters, for a "clean room" effect.
Have fun! It's a great project! You cant have enought room, Ive managed to do a good job filling most of 35 x 40 feet. There's room for a few more boats tho!
: I'm in the process of finishing out my woodworking shop. When I open up all
: your "pics" I not only take a gander at your project, but also
: at the way you've set up shop. The shop will be used for general
: woodworking with an emphasis on small boats. I'm fortunate to have a 32 by
: 24 foot dedicated space that will be heated. Finishing will be done in a
: separate 16 by 24 room. I'd be interested in hearing any ideas you all
: might have on tool organization, storage and material handling that I can
: incorporate in this project. Pictures or drawings would be great. Ideas
: anyone?
