I like the rope-loop-thru-the-end-pour option better than a U-bolt. For a strong, clean-looking loop, I followed a suggestion from this board: take a 3-foot piece of stiff 3-strand nylon rope and unwind one strand of it. Put it thru the hole in your bow or stern, make a loop, then wrap it around itself twice more. When the ends come back together, wrap them with fishing line or heavy nylon thread. It is plenty strong for towing.
