Paddle length

I am almost done with my strip built "Spring Run". I now want to make my first paddle but do not know the appropriate length. I know that it is a matter of taste but it is winter and I cannot test any now so I will have to go with whatever advice that I can get. I am 5' 11". My kayak will be 24" wide. What would be considered an average length for my paddle? Thank you for your help...Seth
