I assume (dangerous I know) that you have a hole drilled through both the stern and the bow.

If you do you may want to consider using an Anchor Shackle to accomplish your objectives. If you are not familiar with this piece of hardware it is a very elongated U shape with the open end closed by a bar that screws and locks shut. Advantages are that you can attatch it when you need it and remove it when you want the boat to look great. The length of the U shape is long enough to allow it to pivot up for hand carry and down for use as a tie on to the car. works on my Coho anyway - you can buy them in stainless steel or in brass for better appearance.
