Hi Johnnie;
I've had this urge to build a kayak or canoe from 1/4" honeycomb which is stocked by one of the local FG suppliers in 4 x 8 sheets . . . It's featherlight (about 1/3 the weight of plywood), would bend more readily than plywood, and would serve to use up some of the glass cloth I have laying around . . . It may turn out to be a bad (19 lb) idea, but I'd have a lot of fun in any event!
What I'm saying is that you should do what you would enjoy, and at the very least, you'll benefit from the experience. Our local Sarasota paper had a front-page picture last week of a water-clear kayak as viewed from underwater, and it was cool! My wife unfortunately took out the recyclables on Thursday so you'll just have to take my word for it . . . It looked great!
Good Luck, Spidey
