Besides comfortable seat, you have to consider the weight of the paddle. The 11 years old will be much lighter than the adult. You have to look into putting ballast in to keep the trim -- unless you have a son like my 12 years old who is already 5 feet 10 and 180lbs -- much much bigger than my in- laws
: Yes, I know there has been much discussion on seats in the past. But this is
: different. Really.
: I have a couple of kayaks with comfortable seats, carved from minicell foam
: to match my bottom. I am now building what could best be described as a
: "general use" kayak - one for other family members and friends
: who want to give kayaking a try. Frequent paddlers include my 11 year old
: nephew and my parents. Nephew is thin, parents aren't. So a seat carved to
: fit my nephew would not be comfortable for the parents, and one carved to
: fit the parents would not fit the nephew. And dad's seat would not be the
: best for mom. Anyway, you get the point.
: Any recommendations on a non-custom seat? I know CLC has the "creature
: comfort" seat, and Newfound Woodworks has the "action
: seat", both of which look very similar. Does anyone have any
: experience with either of these seats?
: Thanks for the help,
: Ken
