Two things (in addition to experience :-) ) have made an improvement in my sanding. (1) Using a vacuum dust pickup to keep excess dust from clogging the sandpaper while sanding and (2) regularly using the gum rubber (?) sticks/blocks to "unclog" sandpaper. These two factors probably double or triple the usable life of my hook and loop disks.
