I prefer using a table saw to cut strips as it is designed to cut straight, where a band saw is more suited to cutting curves. To reduce the kerf and therefore minimize waste, get the thinest blade you can find. At Home Depot, I noticed a display for the Diablo line of blades from Freud. What caught my attention was that while the 10" blade had a fairly narrow kerf, the 7 1/4" blade was almost half as thick. Becouse you are only cutting a 1" board, you don't need the full capability of a 10" saw, so you don't need the big blade for this operation. Ultimately, I think a good setup on a table saw will give you more consistent results than a band saw.
