A lot of places sell spruce as white wood (Home Depot for one.) Pine has similar property as spruce but heavier. Douglas fir is sold throughout the nation as stud for framing stick frame wall. I'll be surprise if you cannot find that because it is the most common wood used in construction business. A lot of time sale people call it 'DF' or 'Doug Fir.'
If you have problem, just ask. It may be the terminology.
