What I meant to write was that I had not tried cool blocks on cedar, but I have used them on my bandsaw and they worked fine on hardwoods, it's just that since I do cut a lot of fir that I went back to the solid steel blocks. I don't have any experience with the bearing blocks. I personally don't see any problem with the steel ones. Occasionally I need to wipe the blade down with solvent to get rid of pitch, but that is pretty rare. The boards with pitch make good firewood, I've found. Some people love their cool blocks, I'm just not one of them.
