As I remember it. And my memory may be failing me here. There were only about 40 pounds of purified alluminium on earth during most of WWII Most of it on the cap of the Washington monument.
Most rolled metal was during the war was rolled or pressed steel. I don't know what the spit fire was made of, but I'm thinking it couldn't have been aluminium. anyone of you chemistry foundry types have a clearer memory on this?
