: My Guillemot is approximately 2 yrs old and getting extremely white/cloudy. I
: think this is due to using an inexpensive epoxy (Blem) and also because of
: lack of experience. I have since built a second kayak using the west
: system 207 with great results. I am considering the two following options
: 1-re-finish the kayak by sanding to the wood. Is this possible? What would be
: the most efficient way of doing this? Would I have to get to the bare wood
: and how much of the saturated wood would I have to sand? I'm assuming
: approximately less than a 16th of an inch.
: 2-or I can just paint the kayak, I'm not to crazy about this option.
Chris,
Before grinding up all that glass, you might like to try pulling it off. Epoxy softens at a fairly low temperature (200°C?). I have seen glass and epoxy stripped off plywood with a heat gun, putty knife, and pliers.
