I just got done drawing up the Bobs Special.
First off... The author does not make it easy to draw them yourself, he earns his money from plan sales. There are a couple of errors I noted in the offsets. You should also check out his web site there is a link that provides correct offsets for the stem forms.
If possible try to locate a copy of his last revision of CanoeCraft. He changed his measuring method but gives an ok description on how to read the table of offsets. His newest revision eliminated the instructions.
Basically you will be measuring up from a horizontal baseline and out from a vertical centerline. When you get both sets of offsets plotted out it will allow you to connect the dots forming 1/2 of the form. The other half you need to flip over and trace the other side completing the form shape. Remember... Some of his plans are now drawn to the outside of the boat. You will need to offset the lines by 1/4" to compensate for the strip thickness. Having access to a cad drawing program makes this much easier and could not imagine laying all this out manually.
In the grand scheme of things, the cost to buy the plans is not that great.
Best of luck,
Don

: We have recently purchased canoecraft and are trying to layout the bob
: special. We have built 12 plywood kayaks and understand the layout from a
: baseline. We are having trouble understanding "table of heights,
: butts" Why dont you just make the pattern for each station and then
: mount the station at the correct elevation on the strong back?

: thanks in advance
