: the strips into the router table WITH the rotation of the bit rather than

The reason for NOT feeding with the rotation is that the bit is cutting AWAY from the fence, not into it. With a soft wood like cedar and a high speed, 1 1/2" diameter bit, you might get away with this, but you are taking a risk. With harder woods or smaller diameter bits, it can grab and your strip becomes an arrow which can penetrate walls or whatever might be in the way.
Splitting could be caused by too large a gap in the fence. The slot on the feed side should be reduced to absolute minimum when ripping flexible stock such as cedar strips. A dull bit could also explain the problem.
