solid ends?

On my next boat I would like to make some solid ends using blocks of wr cedar. As opposed to just having the strips in the middle there would be a solid piece roughly 6" long shaped to a far rounder contour than say having just strips. Has anyone tried this method? Results and any ideas for attachment of the piece?
