I do not disagree with you in principle.Designers/creators deserve credit and financial remuneration for their toil.

I would like to, however, share my feelings/reactions to an experience I have had with one designer. Let me preface these comments with a short background. I attended university in Victoria, BC and often saw sea kayakers on the local waters, and I dreamed - of having the money and storage space, and a car to transport etc... Well, many years later with a family to support I happen upon this BBS, and after a few email contacts decide to take the plunge. I ordered three How-To books: one book on wood and canvas construction (Putz), one on strip-building (Schade), and the book mentioned in this thread.All three make the claim that using the books, one can build a complete kayak, and do it economically...To quote from the book in question in this thread, "...includes complete plans and instructions...anyone can build...".Then on p.19, we are informed that we "should invest in a full-size set of plans from the designer".

IF full-size plans are REQUIRED, THAT OUGHT TO BE MADE CLEAR, when one is buying the book.
The other two books mentioned here do, in fact, appear to fulfill the promises made.
Perhaps more care taken in what goes on the outside of a book will eliminate future 'misunderstandings'.
