the contour sander is not a rotery tool like a die grinder or the electric dremel. it is a vibrating sander with interchangeable contoured heads. one of the attachments turns it into a detail sander, like some would use in furniture refinishing.
as for the dentist, i have had an ordinary dremel rotary tool for many years. one time when still young and stupid i broke a tooth into a dangerously sharp edge, and with the help of the bathroom mirror and the dremel, i took the edge off myself!
