I've kind of got to take back what I posted last night. I spent about a half hour of precious time this evening stripping down my B&D to figure out why it had stopped working (after about 3-4 years of furniture, an aborted attempt at refinishing an old Sailfish, and the kayak). Had to clean out the trigger switch before it would work again.

Sure, this might have happened with a "good" sander after lots of use; however I couldn't help but wonder if it was some kind of karmic justice.

$20 for a new one, though? I might have to stop by Walmart.
