Hatch edges?

If I have the room in my wide beamed kayak, I am going to build three foot long compartments on each side of the combing and running down about 8" from under the top of the deck. Then running from each end of the compartments will be a continous flow of pink board mosture resistant building foam of the same size running all the way to the stem and stern and all of this will be encapsiled in glass. This, in my opinion will make a stable boat when swamped with water that I can easily climb into and paddle to shore while still flooded. Built in sponsors. I will try it out with picture this summer to show how and if it works. My question is, when you cut out the already fiberglassed hatch panels, do you put some epoxy on the edges to keep moisture out. You can't build the edges up too much or they won't fit. That really seems like a stupid question but I need to hear it from someone. Thanks.
