I got my 9 oz polyester at Tacoma Tent and Awning. Check your Yellow Pages for a tent and awning store. You may not have to mail order it then. I just had to drive one block out of my way to get the canvas for my first skin 'yak and the poly' for the last one.
BTW: Your project X is coming along nicely. I am interested in how it turns out because I have been thinking about a similar project. Maybe I could build a <20 lb. 'yak.
