On the last paddle I hollowed the loom to about 1-1/2" past the root of the blade. I didn't dare go any farther due to the way the loom tapers off. I didn't want to go right through while carving the outside. Each blade is two pieces of cedar glued down the center and then glued to the loom with the tapered cut like my other paddles. I still prefer the slightly heavier paddle since it's been through hell and is still in one piece. Although I like the feel of the smaller loom on the superlight, it feels flimsy and I have no trust in it. I think I may try it at the next skills session for rolls and if I don't break it maybe I'll try a paddle float entry. If it survives that, it may become my #1 paddle. If not I think I'll go back to a solid loom and the dimensions of the light weight loom
