But I've got one up on you. It's spelled "Velcro." I may have been getting my chain jerked, but I was told Velcro was the name (last name, I hope) of the French inventor of the stuff. If so, god knows how it should be pronounced.

The former owner of my sailboat used Monsieur Velcro's invention to secure the cockpit cushions in place. He applied short strips with the 3M pressure sensitive adhesive backing. Eight years later they're still there. I don't think they'd come up without 40 grit. He doesn't appear to have done anymore surface prep other than cleaning. We don't use the cushions (just extra weight on the race course) and I'd like to get rid of the velcro, but my efforts to peel it off have failed.
