Yes, those planes do work well. I picked mine up at Menard's. Made by Stanley and it cost 5.99 on sale.Also ended up purchasing a palm plane from Lee Valley thats a bit more deluxe. It has a cast iron body, and a bit of a "tail" that serves the same purpose as the golf ball.Real nice tool for 13.95
