I'm almost ready to start on the cockpit coaming for the Merganser I'm building. The cockpit opening is fairly large, so I wanted to add knee braces to give me more purchase. My mission today is to pick everyone's brain about how to best install braces. Eric Shade suggested to stitch them into the cockpit as an hourglass shaped piece, and then cutting them when installed. Another idea I am considering is using the bottom layer(s) of the laminated cockpit coaming by enlarging them to form the braces, and letting them overhang the edge. My only concern about this arrangment is, that they would be pointing upward at eachother. I guess this could be compensated for with carved minicell foam.
Any ideas, comments or other thoughts on this subject?
Thanks,
Angela
