If you are going to disassemble your strongback, does it matter if it is internal or external. I find the biggest advantage of the internal strongback is you don't need to disassemble it. This lets you return the boat to the forms easily after glassing the inside. If I am using stables or other temporary clamping system, I can also remove the finished hull before finising the deck. This lets me reach inside which can help when instaling strips. But you don't get that advantage with the hot-glue system.

I suppose that loosening the forms on an internal stongback is not completely disassembling it, but if you need to go through the process of realigning the forms to use it again, I don't see much advantage one way or the other.

You could make some solid "registering" system which lets the forms drop easily back into perfect alignment after releasing. This should be fairly easy if you have a solid, dead straight strongback, but might be more difficult with anything else.

If you want to spend the time and money, I'm sure you could make a really slick system. The question isn't really what is possible, but what is practical.
