Use of red oak - any experiences appreciated

Has anyone had success epoxying/'glassing red oak? Has anyone here tried it? I had heard once that due to the tannins in the wood, it doesn't fiberglass well. That was a while ago and maybe the person I talked to used polyester resin. I have quite a bit of red oak and would like to use it to make my hatch cut-outs larger in diameter by epoxying very thin and flexible strips of oak around the existing edge. Yes, I could use ash, but I think the red oak would look very nice. I just don't want to do it and then find it delaminating.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks
