If you have also built stands as shown in Nick's book, it will be supported in 4 places and should not be too wobbly. I thought a beam built up of plywood or osb would not be as stiff or strong as an ordinary 2x4, so I just used a 2x4 and the stands as shown in the book. Worked great, and I would do it the same way again.
