: John,
: Inlays look nice. I particulary like the rams head you did in an earlier
: post. How does the super glue joint sand? When I used to build model RC
: planes I always had a tough time sanding it because it was harder than the
: wood and tended to leave ridges at the joints. Of course that was balsa
: wood though. How is it with cedar?
Hi Steve,
You ask a good question about the sanding. I have the two triangles installed in the boat now. I cut two holes side by side in the back deck to insert the inlays one at a time. Since they were curled as I mention I was able to use one of the cut out holes to insert clamps to clamp the curled edges of the first inlay but I couldn't clamp the second one. So I yellow glued the second insert and then pushed the curled edges flush with my fingers and then dumped super glue on the top deck edge of the insert and deck cut out edge and sprayed with accelerater. I did this in several places around the insert to hold it into place while the yellow glue dried. Again, another use for super glue. So I had puddles of hard super glue on the insert and deck. I just now went into the shop and sanded the whole insert area down with my belt sander. I sanded over pine, basswood, poplar and cedar in this super glue area and they all sanded evenly, so I would assume it would sand ok with any other sander.
