Most of my best ideas occurred when I didn't know better. Much of the fun of creating something is figuring out how to do it. Once I really figure out how to do something well, it becomes less interesting. I am also very suspect of procedures which people say is the "best" or worse "only" way to do something.
Often a step in a procedure which is good for one person is only really good if it is used in within the confines of the rest of his procedure. Picking and choosing from a variety of different techniques usually requires some change in each of the steps to make them work together as a whole. Only by trying to combine the different procedures do you see what needs to be changed.
Don't be put off from experimenting just because someone says they know a better way. Maybe they do, but maybe they don't really understand whay you want to accomplish.
For example, Rob's hot-melt technique may not work that well on some of my designs. My Expedition Single has some strips with a lot of twist and reverse bend. These strips are hard to keep in place even with clamps. It is quite possible that hot-melt glue is not strong enough to hold all strips in all situations on every design. If not, you would need to do something different. What works for one person in one situation is not neccessarily going to work for everyone in all cases. When it doesn't, you adapt.
