The website my wife and I created has quite a bit of information on seats, backrests, and cockpit fitting. If you have a bulkhead that is very close to the seat the built-on type of backrest is very satisfactory. If there is nothing but empty space behind the seat a backband is an easier solution. The location of the seat needs to be determined by the trim of the kayak, not by one's preference for any particular style of back support. Good luck with your project!
